Overview

The game is inspired by Scottish castles and the royalty that lived within them. Created with original lino cut designs, it is an original game in which players create their own castle, with gameplay based on Scottish history.

Historic Scotland brief

The purpose of the project was to create a product to be sold on Historic Scotland sites. Each King or Queen included in the game is connected to a Historic Scotland site, achieved through researching the history of the castles to uncover those connections.

Development

The development of the game began with testing rules and playtesting. From there, visual development progressed, making decisions on the aesthetics of the game. Each king and queen card was created from a lino cut print that was then edited digitally. The aim was a medieval look to fit the theme. Each castle card was carefully designed to remain functional, resulting in an original game in both design and gameplay.
